Akiba Abaka Arts is an international team of professional actors, directors, designers and producers. We make plays, concerts and talks centered on narratives from the global black world and tour them internationally.

There is a lack of diverse theatre products that reflect narratives that humanize the experiences of Black people globally, particularly in the Caribbean Diaspora. Common practices in international theatre programming display narratives of Black cultures that are monolithic, and polarized around race. While one can see a play that features Black actors, created by Black artists, it does not always reflect the experience of everyone who identifies as “Black” because many people who identify as Black see culture, nationality and or ethnicity as their primary identifier over race.
